This brilliant and touching novel illuminates the astounding intelligence of non- human life forms, in this case, an Octopus named Marcellus. The novel focuses on the interconnectedness of all life and rejects the traditional hierarchy that places humans entirely apart from the natural world. Instead, it bridges the gap between human and animal consciousness through Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus.
It shows us that wisdom and empathy are not exclusive human properties.
