“What are the rules of breaking the rules?” You ask . . .
1) You have to know what the rules are to consciously break them. This is easier said than done. Most of the rules we made up in our minds replay themselves over 2000 times per day, and most of them are unconscious.
2) Know the consequences and own them. Some rules, like “don’t run red lights” can come with dire consequences. Rules like, “act like a lady” are my favorite to break, however I may not be invited back to THAT restaurant.
3) One must weigh whether the consequence of breaking the rule is worthy of one’s station.
Here’s an example of a great poet, a heroic act, and a tragic story worth remembering:
It’s around the 1860’s in Persia (Iran). My favorite Poet of all time, an Iranian woman named Tahirih, chose to remove her veil in public. This was an act punishable by death. She spoke these final words before her execution:
“You can kill me as soon as you like, but you cannot stop the emancipation of women.”
She chose this heroic act for the dignity of all women fully knowing the consequences. She chose the silk scarf and the method (strangulation) of her execution. She came to the garden to meet her executioner dressed as though she was attending her own wedding.

Endlessly flowing, changing,
leaping with joy,
creativity, self-expression and
clear, abundant water.

Fortify yourself in its wisdom.
Appearing to flow only one way — down,
But with secret vortexes that only
The patient fish know how to ride up.
Making them “free riders” like it’s a “bad” thing.
Showering all I meet with ions of love and
Relaxation,
Dropping you into my trance
Like a whirling dervish.
Set your mind aside for a moment
To feel . . .
The mad rush of my passion.
Not from me, but through me,
From endless Source where
It appears that I never move
A paradox of flow from my center.
Mysteries, riddles and poems
Cannot hold me –
Forever spiraling
Through your veins
In purest form
Most vibrant energy
Beyond understanding.
So let go
Into my arms spread wide
And float to your destiny
For I carry you.
But don’t just bask in my ebolience,
Surrender to YOUR creative flow.
Find YOUR vortex of effortless delight,
And ride it all the way to the top
So, once again
You can leap with me!
